Spirituality

"Spirituality is the praxis and process of personal transformation, either in accordance with traditional religious ideals, or, increasingly, oriented on subjective experience and psychological growth independently of any specific religious context. In a more general sense, it may refer to almost any kind of meaningful activity or blissful experience. There is no single, widely-agreed definition for the concept, and the term may be applied to a wide variety of practices."

Well that's what Wikipedia says when you look up spirituality. But what does it mean actually. Let me tell you what I understand.

Spirituality, I find, is something beyond religious practices and religion itself. I have searched a lot regarding this and I have seen that spirituality signifies you finding your true heart. Now that is something hard to grasp... right. What does True Heart mean?

All of us know that we have desires, ambitions, passion, emotions and we have a life because of these things. But because of these we also have struggles and hardships. In this chaotic world we survive solely on the basis of our daily life decisions. These decisions put a lot of pressure on our mind. So, to calm ourselves and see whether the path we are taking is the right one or not, we need to look at ourselves and analyse. This process of analyzing and reflecting on our own selves is what we call practicing spirituality.

How can we do this? Well the answer is pretty simple and we all know it. We just tend to ignore it. All we have to do is sit down, relax a bit, calm our mind, clear our thoughts and reflect on our actions. Well easy said than done. But if we practice daily we can find the world to be better than we know it as now.

In this busy life how can we do such a complex exercise daily without taking up a lot of time. Well all we need is 30mins of our daily life. We start of by sitting in a silent place. A roof or a garden is the best but you can do this in your room too. Sit on the floor with a cloth beneath you. the best position that I find is by cross folding your legs and keeping your back straight.

Next close your eyes and picture yourself in dark room with a point of bright light exactly straight of you. Focus on that light and try to let go of all the thoughts you have in your mind. With a few days of practice you will know what clearing up your mind means. When you feel that your mind is clear of all thoughts, try to feel the energy around you. It will take quite a while but you will surely be able to do it if your first step is successful. While doing this you will find a lot of things that you didn't know.

How does this exercise help you? Well the first thing is it keeps your mind calm and thus gives it a little rest. Secondly, it makes you more aware of your capabilities and thus making decisions efficient. Also it helps you to analyse and solve tough situations with ease. In short we can say it enhances and stabilizes your mental growth.

This exercise can be performed by anyone of any age. It doesn't matter if you are a student, a professional, a sportsperson or a man in your old age. Also I have heard that women are better in this than men are since they are true to their heart.

In the end you will find spirituality is nothing but getting closer to nature and to your own soul. Please people, beware of those who tell you that religion is the true way to find yourself. That is not true. Believe in yourself. God is not to be found elsewhere but within you. If you find your true self, you will find God too.

The biggest commitment you must keep is the commitment to yourself.
