What your children may need from you - Infant Diaries

This is the first part of the series of posts 'What your Children may need from you.' This part is focused on infants up to the age of 5 years old. This post is for all the parents, especially Indians, out there with one child at the very least. Also, I am no parent an I am writing this post from the perspective of a child. I would refer to a child as she to neutralize the male dominance in the society, at least as much as I can. From the moment a child enters the world, the first thing she gets to know is Mother, for those who don't, I really wish you could. For a child, her mother is the anchor in a sea of unknown faces. If she is insecure, she would cry and we all know that her mother can bring her security. Food, sanitation or any other problem an infant may have, mother is the one she would call for. So what all would your child require of you? Let's take it step-by-step: 1. Your attention - Yes, your child would require your attention. She is very...

A History in the Making

Indian PM, Narendra Modi has announced the cancellation of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes and launched new Rs. 2000 notes. This has created mixed response from the public. People had posed many questions, like what was the need to launch 2000Rs. notes? Do the people standing in the line have black money? Who is going to take responsibility for those who died while waiting in those lines? PM Modi has promised to bring black money from outside India, where is it? And many more... Have you ever thought that if our previous PMs would have taken strict actions against black money and terrorism, we would never have needed this change. What did we do when people were taking bribes? Did we stop them? No, instead we looked for an easy way out. What did we do when our ministers kept backing out from their promises after elections? We just sat and watched and then made comments on India's situation. Think before you raise questions. We will have more discussion on this and you are wel...

A night at Sangam, Allahabad

I had a chance to go to outer part of Allahabad District few months ago. I was to live there and become a teacher for class 8 to 10 at a private school. This was a good opportunity for me as I always wanted a chance to live in Allahabad, though I did get to be in the main city itself. With this I also had a chance to visit the very famous 'Sangam'. I heard a lot of things about Sangam from being very peaceful to being absolutely marvelous. I found all of those to be very true. The only thing is that the people have Made the rivers go so low that Sangam has lost its strength that I so much heard about. I got to see it from the new bridge on the Sangam. Here are a few pics that I have clicked...

Malnutrition

This is one of the biggest concerns India is facing. According to 2011 Global Hunger Index Report, India was ranked 15th amongst the leading countries with Hunger situation. More that one third of world's malnourished children live in India. How can we aspire to be a Global power if we are unable to give our children a healthy life?

Diverting People's Minds

Congress has been trying to divert everyone's attention from focusing on the good things that we people might do instead of stretching former IPL chief Lalit Modi's escape to UK. Now I am no member or supporter of any political party, but as a responsible citizen of the country I do have my opinions.

Water crisis soon to come

According to a UN report, by the year 2030 there will only be 60% of water required in the whole world without a significant policy change. Now that’s a pretty serious situation since in 15 years we are going to have to pay water coming in our homes if this keeps up. Being an Indian, I have how water is used in India. The country is taking its water reserves for granted and is wasting a lot of it without even trying to save a little. With the Global warming, rainfall patterns all over the world have become more unpredictable and cannot be said to rely on. And as population increases so does the demand for potable water, which is going to be hot crisis soon. “India’s groundwater tables are plunging at an alarming rate with reserves in some states dwindling to critical levels. Over 16% of groundwater resources are ‘over exploited’ – mainly in north-western, western and peninsular India. Groundwater extraction in some states including Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan has reach...

Are short clothes really responsible for Rape in India?

This has been a debate amongst Indians since ever. People would say things like, 'She was wearing short clothes', 'she wasn't aware of surroundings', 'she went out late at night', etc. But is this really a reason, or is it just a way to say, 'We men have done nothing wrong.' It is high time we understand that it is the insatiability of males that is causing the rise in rape cases.

A Tribute to Nepal Earthquake Victims

25th April, 2015 Nepal was hit by an Earthquake of Magnitude 7.8. The shockwaves were felt upto Delhi. I was sitting in my room in front of my laptop when suddenly I felt everything shaking. Though nothing happened in Delhi but I am sure people panicked. Everybody ran out of their houses as soon as possible. I heard women shouting to get everyone out, children were crying because they were scared. Even I was scared a bit. The shaking happened for 5 whole mins. Location Of Epicenter That feeling I cannot shake off. After a little while another tremor was felt, a little lower on Richter Scale. But scary all the same. Again I did not run out of my apartment. When everything settled down I switched on the news and found out that it was in Nepal where the Earthquake's Epicentre was located. Somewhere around 50 miles northwest of Kathmandu. Soon the pictures of destruction caused started appearing on the television. I soon switched off the news to lighten the mood, but it w...
